What drives Henry Baumann to create is the joy of seeing fresh shapes materialise. The curiosity and excitement, the pleasant surprises along the way. Never prescribing to a top-down approach but rather giving the materials the conditions in which they can find their own forms, Baumann’s pieces are always one of a kind. Repetition is not in his vocabulary.

Using materials in different ways to how they were intended, seeing them in different lights and playing with preconceived ideas of their properties unlocks hidden potential. Having ideas is more important than having hope for Baumann. Momentum is more valuable than a target, movement more than direction. This is, however, a time-consuming approach.
